Questions we get asked
What is Idris?
A comprehensive software system running on Windows PC systems. One that measurably improves staff performance (management, administration and sales people) in typical New Zealand used car sales businesses. We work on a “key data once, use it many times” principle. Reducing repetition saves time, improves efficiency, reduces slip-ups and increases accuracy. All improve performance and job satisfaction.
How does it work?
It records details of all stock, imports or trades coming into the business. Supplier, cost (in multiple currencies if required), date paid for, reconditioning details/cost, sale prices (wholesale, retail or specials), prospects and customer information. Idris records and prints forms for finance, sales and MBI warranty and/or CCI details. It also produces an array of stock & sales reports, along with after-sales follow up. It’s the best in web site updating, storing up to twelve images per vehicle. Tracks monies owed to agents and by finance company or customer. And much, much more...
How long have you been around?
We began work on our first LMVD system in 1996 but on IDRIS in 1999. We ground through the early tough years of investment, developing the system and services our users value. We now enjoy profitable growth.
What do I need to run Idris?
A modern PC is best with fast internet connection (JetStream or cable). However, many users are still running three- or four- year old PCs with telephone dial-up to the ‘net. Idris is multi-user, so more than one PC can be run at the same time using and sharing the same information. Idris can even handle multi-branch set-ups.
Do I need a computer expert?
Idris is easy to learn and use someone in your firm needs to be responsible for maintaining the records. If the data isn’t keyed in accurately and as you do business, you’ll end up hand-writing too much and repeating the same old errors. Idris doesn’t require an in-house expert but a good local hardware technical service is useful. If you don’t have one, we’ll recommend people we trust.
Is data from my old system available in Idris?
We have data conversion tools to extract data from several competing systems. Why? Because we are asked routinely to convert users from other systems.
What if something goes wrong?
This is where our experience really counts. Everybody gets something wrong. Idris can cope with errors you make (and our occasional mistakes, too). We provide primary training with a manual and built-in help within Idris when you get set up. In-depth tutorials are available on our web site. Once you’re set up and trained, we provide telephone, fax and e-mail support when you need it, on terms you choose. Excellent data back-up facilities exist within Idris as well as a comprehensive system analyser that helps us diagnose any problems from a distance. This means you don’t need to stay on the phone for lengthy periods if anything crops up. We can usually sort things quickly by asking the right questions or talk you through running the analyser report.
Who owns the system?
Idris is a software product so you buy a license for each user to use the software. We retain ownership of the software. If you sell the business as a whole, the software license will normally remain in use in the business.
Do you improve the system?
Yes, we have a continuous improvement policy fed by user and industry feedback. This comes from trade associations, web-listers, finance and warranty companies as well as our users. We monitor support and feedback so we can isolate for improvement the areas that matter most to users.
How can I tell if it's worth it?
Two weeks after they’ve used Idris, new users routinely report high levels of satisfaction and a clear sense of its value. Existing users throughout New Zealand tell us they love IDRIS, remaining loyal users over many years.
They tell us that they like the way we do
business.
Do users prosper with Idris?
Idris users generally have prospered over the last decade but of course there have been exceptions. This speaks volumes in a volatile industry where start-ups and close-downs have been very common.
